Update the 2002 recommendation statement U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) on high risk breast cancer screening guidelines in the general population.
The USPSTF reviewed the evidence of the effectiveness of five screening modalities in reducing mortality from breast cancer: mammography, clinical breast examination, breast self examination, digital mammography, and MRI to update the 2002 recommendations. To do the update, the USPSTF commissioned two studies: 1) a systematic review of six selected questions specific evidence relating to the risks and benefits of screening, and 2) decision analysis using population modeling approach to compare the expected health outcomes and resources required to start and stop screening mammography at different ages and annual screening interval to two years.
