i have this reel with my st.croix and its insanely light. i thought that there wouldnt be that big of a difference but its night and day with this reel and my past reels. some people dont like the handle grip but i think its pretty comfy. u feel every nibble with a light rod/reel combo i definatly recommend this reel. not to mention its a sexy unit.

It is a sexy unit. Very nice with the red and black. It feels very nice and works great. Wish the price was lower.

      3000 ci4 Stradic Vs. D HA & TSH, May 6, 2011

Yes, pricey, but very very light verse Excelers. Obviously, there is no comparison if you consider weight.

I Paired each reel (HA, TSH against ci4) with GL3, fishing all day with no fatigue ever with Shimano and I feel the oneness I love with my lure more with this new ci4. I actually for the money would recommend the HA over the ci4, but for the weight and this area of total connect and final finish. (For double the price, no surprise here). NOTE: In case you are wondering why writing 3000 under 2500 review, they are same exact reel, just different spool size.

Personally, while some critics rate low on the position- I choose “Like” button for the hard to reach anti-reverse switch, since I never use that ever and hate if accident switched on!

Only negative: I wish was slightly faster, after fishing with TSH, but no other complaints. If you want speed, for the money the Daiwa’s Exceler TSH is hard to beat especially covering a lot water very quickly looking for schooling fish or whatever. I love the HA.

Ci4′s drag dials well perspective to “fish on” usage while in battle (some reels apply drag either too fast or too slow). Shimano has it just right.

**Big deal: Bail problem in prior Shimanos has been rectified! This was pointed out by a friend David who reviews tackle for a living and had me reconsider looking again at Shimano:
(Therefore, you no longer need to close bail by hand after casts- due to line not setting just right after cast as bail flipped).

Excellent casting as well…out performs my older Stradics & my MFG and performs as well as near same price point new Diawas as well as those about 1/2 their price. Subjective, I realize, but (I think) requires less effort during long casts and winding in is effortless (no sounds or mechanical feeling as with some of the newer Ds), but the TSH seemed to cast a few feet further, which is interesting if I even cannot prove it with the testing I did.

Finally, have had only a few weeks (but didn’t stop my fishing central FL with 15lb braid) and managed several largemouths over 2LBs (some over 6LBs each), and every time performed like a dream fishing mid-light set-up. There is a lot of raving over new D’s, & rightly so, especially for the money; but after all being said, am glad went back to Shimano on this one…

Conclusion: After fishing both on my favorite bass sticks and thinking I’d leave Shimano after Diawa offered incredible products at better price points, and after the excellent products got from them recently, glad I went back to my child hood favorite-not much to complain of here-using my favorite bass tool out on the water: weight wins!
