P3–Power, Precision, Performance Reels:
- Reels from Shimano’s P3 lineup are all built using the targets of Power, Precision, and Performance. Power can be found in the ultra-smooth, efficient drivetrains. Precision comes from tight tolerances and excellent line lay. Performance is the end result of all of the features packed into the P3 reels.
Varispeed:
- Normal oscillation systems use a constant rotation of the oscillation gear that when translated to the cam, provides an inconsistent spool speed. This inconsistent spool speed results in line lay that stacks at either end of the spool. By using an oval oscillation gear in the reel, the speed of the oscillation cam is altered to provide a consistent spool speed. This results in an even line lay that provides excellent cast-ability and manageability.
Super Stopper II Anti-Reverse:
- Super Stopper II anti-reverse uses a one-way bearing that eliminates back play, providing the angler with instant hook-setting power.
Dyna-Balance:
- The Dyna-Balance feature eliminates wobble during the retrieve by counter balancing the rotor to enhance sensitivity and smoothness. By using computer balancing, an approach similar to car tire balancing, the rotor weight is redistributed to create smooth rotation and eliminate vibrations caused by the reel.
Power Roller II:
- Power Roller II is an oversized line roller that reduces twist from casting and retrieving and is enhanced with a tapered area on the support to help line get onto the roller quicker.
Propulsion Line Management System:
- The Propulsion Line Management System includes the Propulsion Spool Lip, Power Roller III, Redesigned Bail Trip, Graphite Rotor, and S-Arm Cam with the most obvious component being the Propulsion Spool Lip design. Through tens of thousands of casting tests and computer simulations, this new spool lip design has proven to provide longer casting distances while preventing backlashes and wind knots from forming. It also allows the line to flow off of the spool in smaller loops during the cast, which means less slap on the stripper guide delivering longer casts with less friction. The Propulsion Spool Lip also utilizes a long stroke design to further enhance the casting distance. Furthermore, there is less bouncing of the line on the spool lip like on a standard spinning spool. Because of the unique shape of the Propulsion Spool, the line flows consistently off of the spool. So, with a standard spool, friction alternates from heavy to light as the line slaps the spool lip. This causes backlash and inconsistent line speeds. The Propulsion spool lip provides consistently light friction to overcome these situations.
