I received this light yesterday and am impressed with its small size and light output. The change for this model vs. the regular quark mini 123, the reason for the “x” in the name, is the use of a newer model of light emitter from CREE, the XM-L T6. The size is rather compact being shorter than two cr123 batteries laid back to back. The brightness, when compared to other flashlights, seems to be coming close to its stated outputs but because its spread pattern is more of a flood style you don’t get the wicked bright hot spot in the center of the beam that you do with a larger light. For example a Surefire Z2 combat light with a led conversion that claims 70 lumens when pointed at a wall has a tighter brighter hot spot and the minix123, claiming 210, seems to put out a good bit more light overall on a wider portion of the wall but its center is not as bright to my eye. The user interface is a simple twist style with no tail cap button. Time will tell if I miss the tail cap button enough to be an issue but in one day of playing around I got fairly quick at cycling thru the functions one handed. I am impressed with this, my first example of a 4sevens flashlight, and look forward to putting it to use.

My wife has a disorder that makes her night vision very very bad. So she needed a flashlight. The problem was that she carries a very small purse, and everything else in her pocket. So I had to find a small but bright flashlight. This little guy did the trick. She loves that it has three levels of brightness. The only thing we don’t like is that most of the time the flashlight comes on momentarily before you finish twisting it. This results in going from low to medium really fast. But that is a minor complaint since she rarely uses low anyway.

      Overall a fantastic little flashlight.

This light is 1) blindingly bright (when it needs to be), 2) small, I mean really small!, 3) shockingly light and 4) built like a US-made tank. What else is there to want?

I have lots of other LED lights including SF and two other 47s. I have high standards and high hopes for this light, and I was not just pleased with it, but impressed.

If you are looking for a light in this form factor, look no further. I love its interface, and unless you need an EDC that will instantly blind an aggressor, the interface of this light is perfect.

This is a practical light for almost all nonviolent uses. This light won’t bash anyone’s skull like the SF E2D, or win a game of chicken with a car like the 4×123 lights, or provide an infinite range of brightnesses like the $200+ SF T1A, but it will work reliably cycling from low to medium to high brightnesses with a smooth back-and-forth 1/8th turn of the bezel answering almost any need for light.

I will mention that since the switch is by screwing down the bezel, it is possible not to turn it off enough that a slight pressure on the bezel will activate the light. If you play with the amount of pressure necessary to switch on the light, you will see it is easy to avoid. However, should you inadvertently activate the light in your pocket, you have about four days (100 hours) to notice before your battery is dead since the first setting is the lowest lumen setting.
