SA Tourism spoils Nigerian “Fundi” winners

Nine Nigerian travel trade representatives on a 10-day holiday in South Africa have been given an experience of a lifetime, courtesy of South Africa Tourism who have laid out lavish itinerary to make the visitors savour the incredible leisure and business offerings of their country.

The travel consultants who jetted out of Lagos  on board South African Airways were winners of SAT’s six-module online travel expert programme also known as “Fundi”.

The Fundi is an online South Africa expert programme  designed to transform SA Tourism trade partners and travel consultants into complete travel information specialists concerning the country.

The Nigerian travel consultants have thus become “Fundis”- trusted specialists who will sell travel packages to travellers  because they recognise their knowledge and expertise of the destination.

According to SA Tourism Africa Regional Director, Phumi Dhlomo, “the Fundi programme is an initiative of imparting trade partners and travel consultants with a broad distinct knowledge of South Africa which provides all relevant travel information to better sell destination SA.”

From the 1 to 12 March, hosted Nigerian trade representatives as part of the Africa Mega FAM Trip, SAT’s annual trade consultants hosting would explore, experience and enjoy incredible leisure and business offerings across three South African Provinces, Johannesburg in Gaunteng; Durban in Kwazulu Natal and Cape Town in the Western Cape.

As part of activities lined up in the Africa Mega FAM Trip itinerary, hosted Nigeria trade representatives experienced the Ushaka Marine World in Durban and have a feel of the wild life at the Zimbali Resort.

In Cape Town, the Mother City, hosted trade representatives  enjoyed a boat cruise on the famous Victoria and Alfred waterfront, a tour of the beautiful city of Cape Town and a visit to the massive wine lands which produces about 45 percent of South Africa’s wines via helicopter.

Also in the Cape Town the team experienced one of the most attractive tourism attractions in the world- Table Mountain.

Outskirts of the economic hub of Johannesburg, the trade representatives were treated to a hot air balloon safari tour and a visit to the Apartheid Museum  to visualize the history of South Africa’s struggles.
Nigeria Fundi winners also felt the unique experience of the Gautrain- the only Speed train transportation in the whole of Africa.

SA Tourism which also organised a workshop and business networking session for Nigeria Fundi winners to meet with their Kenyan counterparts as well as other interested business groups in South Africa.

In the 10 days of scintillating and out of this world tour across South Africa, hosted Nigeria Fundi winners stayed in seven five-star hotels and resort.

Hosted Nigeria Fundi winners include Adegoke Olanireti Omotomilola of Tour Brokers International; Adebanjo Ethele Olukanyinsola of TTL Tours; Olukotun Olabisi Aderonke of Perazim Travel and Tours; Olaronke Olanrewaju GMT Travels Shitta and Eto Henry Ezinwanne of World N Traveland.

Others are Akingbe Frederick Olakunle of Leadway Tours and Travels; Sobulo Olaide of American Express; Okwuosa Arinze Louis of CGSK and Onajite Onerhime of Zeep Travel.

Recall that in the last quarter of 2010, South African Tourism revamped its online expertise programme also known as “Fundi” for trade partners and travel consultants selling destination South Africa.
